Åbo Akademi University is looking for a University Researcher in Bioimaging for the period 1 November 2025 until 31 December 2030. The appointment is full-time and located at the Biochemistry and Cell Biology unit at the Faculty of Science and Engineering in Turku, Finland. The successful candidate will be an expert in advanced light microscopy and/or image analysis, with research interests closely aligned with those of existing research groups within Cell Biology.

The tasks are specified below:

Research (70%)

• conduct independent research that uses or develops advanced light microscopy and image analysis
• collaborate actively with existing research groups within the Biocity Turku Campus and the broader academic community
• disseminate research through high-quality publications, conferences, and workshops
• contribute to a vibrant research environment by participating in seminars, collaborations, and mentoring.

Teaching (30%)

Coordinate advanced-level courses (Master’s and PhD level) in:

• advanced light microscopy methods
• image analysis techniques
• cytoskeletal research
• organize and lead hands-on workshops in advanced microscopy and image analysis
• contribute to the development and coordination of the international Master’s Degree Programme in Biomedical Imaging (BIMA) that is jointly run with the University of Turku
• support the administrative and outreach activities related to the BIMA MSc Programme

The position is fixed-term for the period 1.11.2025-31.12.2030

The university researcher’s salary is based on levels 6-7 of the job requirement levels for teaching and research staff. In addition, an individual salary component based on personal work performance is added to the salary. Please see the salary chart for teaching and research personnel.
