Turku Imaging Day 2024: Celebrating the Power of Imaging Across Disciplines
The second edition of Turku Imaging Day (TID) organised by Field of View Research Program and Turku BioImaging, took place on October 23rd in BioCity, Turku, gathering over 190 participants for a full day of inspiring talks, networking, and celebration of advances in imaging across scientific fields. The day began with a unique keynote by Prof. Olof Solin, who offered a fascinating historical perspective on the Turku PET Centre, tracing its journey over the past few decades. The scientific program continued with talks that spanned medical imaging, biological imaging, material sciences, and the use of AI in motion science.
Among the notable speakers, Neil J. Cronin from Jyväskylä presented groundbreaking work on quantifying the physics behind movement, highlighting imaging’s critical role in studying the mechanics of biology. The day’s final talk by John Eriksson, Director General of Euro-BioImaging, provided an inspiring overview of imaging’s evolution in Turku and previewed the Biomedical Imaging Programme’s 15th-anniversary celebration next year.
The program was divided into four sessions: Snapshots of Science, Zooming in on Motion, Close-up on the Core of Matter, and A Panorama of Progress. Coffee breaks between sessions allowed participants to explore poster presentations and visit company booths from ThermoFisher Scientific, ImmunoDiagnostics Oy, BegmanLabora, and Euro-BioImaging, who showcased their latest innovations.
The evening festivities continued at Mauno restaurant, where participants enjoyed a relaxed networking dinner with sparkling wine and live music from Ocean Wall Band. The band also added excitement by announcing the winners of the Best Poster Awards, which went to Oona Paavolainen, Blanca Tejeda Gonzalez, and Yu Chen/Hilyatushalihah Kholia Audah—congratulations to all!
