This year, the Academy of Finland issued special funding calls as part of Finland’s efforts to combat the effects of the pandemic. Turku BioImaging received funding from a call aimed at the development of research, development and innovation partnership networks, as part of the Health Campus Turku 2.0 consortium.

The consortium is lead by Dean Pekka Hänninen from the Medical Faculty of the University of Turku, and Åbo Akademi’s participation in the consortium is headed by Turku BioImaging Research Manager Pasi Kankaanpää. Other partners in the consortium are the Turku University of Applied Sciences and Novia University of Applied Sciences. The consortium works in close collaboration with the Hospital District of Southwest Finland, Turku Science Park and several companies and other partners, such as Terveystalo, Mehiläinen, and Roche.

Turku BioImaging’s role in the consortium is to develop services for complex data analysis and interpretation. The ultimate aim is to establish mechanisms to assist researchers in e.g. image analysis utilizing modern AI-driven deep learning methods.
